Wu Yee Children’s Services opened a new children and family services center in San Francisco’s Mission District on Thursday, providing childcare, family support and educational resources to families in the area. Mayor Daniel Lurie also attended the opening ceremony.
The newly opened Mission Children’s Hub is located in The Women’s Building at 3543 18th Street in San Francisco. According to childcare services, nearly 15 percent of the children and families receiving services from the organization live in the Mission district, which also has at least 4,000 families with young children.
Lena Yu, Assistant Director of Family Access and Engagement, said, “Wu Yee Children’s Services has always been very supportive of families, especially those with young children. There are at least four thousand families with young children in the Mission district, so Wu Yee hopes to help more families in the Mission district and make services more accessible to them. This way, families can find resources that are available in their language to help them.”
The new center offers parent-child playgroup activities for infants and toddlers, as well as child care resource referral services to help parents find child care and other community resources. The center also provides family visit services and professional training and exchange activities for family daycare educators.
Mayor Laurie said, “We are working to make San Francisco the first major city in the country to make childcare services available to every family with a child under the age of five, and Wu Yee is a very important partner in that.”
A spokesperson for the childcare center said they hope the new center will become a convenient service hub within the Mission community, making it easier for parents and early childhood educators to access support and access different community resources.
